I am an Anamcharadas Companion, having trained through the Anamcharadas Training in Milltown, Dublin. My desire for spiritual companioning came through my practice of Listening Prayer and Centring Prayer.
I am a Counselling Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland, with over three decades of counselling experience. I have walked alongside individuals, couples and families who were seeking a fuller sense of being alive and better mental health. Time and again, I found myself on holy ground with them. These times sparked a deep curiosity in me about the sacred elements in our lives.
The main difference between an Anamcharadas Companion and Counselling lies in their focus: Anamcharadas Companionship centers on your spiritual journey and on seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit or God (or your preferred way of connecting with the Divine), while Counselling provides ‘counsel’ and is based on how the human mind works and evidence-based practice in psychology.
While all issues are interconnected, our engagement centers on a divine-human relationship that stays integrated with life. In Anamcharadas Companioning, we focus on the whole person’s life as they seek a closer connection with God. Counselling frequently highlights approaches like Family Systems and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
Both Counselling and Anamcharadas Companionship extend beyond our individual egos, fostering a deeper understanding and connection.
